On June 6 Expocentre Fairgrounds saw the opening of the 20th Edition of the Elektro International Exhibition for Electrical Equipment for Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics and the 9th Edition of the ElectroTechnoExpo Specialized Exhibition for Energy-Saving and Innovation Technologies. Elektro is one the oldest trade fairs held by Expocentre. It has become one of the leading European events devoted to electrical engineering. This widely recognized exhibition carries the approval logos of UFI – the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, and RUEF – the RussianUnion of Exhibitions and Fairs.   For over 40 years it has showed achievements of both Russian and international electrical industries.

During the opening ceremony Deputy Director General of Expocentre Mikhail Tolkachev thanked all those who provided support for the event namely the Russian Ministry of Energy, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Moscow City Government. He also thanked the exhibitors – over 450 companies from 23 countries. China, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, Spain and Turkey arranged their national expositions organized with the help of industry ministries, unions and associations.

Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy Mr. Lipatov said that the energy industry needed drastic changes such as replacement and reconstruction of facilities and equipment, erection of new power lines. It all requires large financial investments from both government and business circles.  Mr. Lipatov expressed his concern about energy-intensive equipment used in Russia. It inevitably leads to line losses. On behalf of State Duma deputies he wished the exhibition participants every success.

Executive Director of the Association of Manufacturers of Electronic Equipment and Instruments Mr. Maslov believes that Russian electrical enterprises keep developing. He called for cooperation of all interested parties with Russian companies of the electrical industry. Director of the International Energy Academy Mr. Perminov drew attention to the fact that over the last 20 years the industry had undergone many "management, technological, financial and legal” changes. Like other speakers he acknowledged that much of equipment used in Russia nowadays had already outlived its usefulness. The industry faces an important task of modernization. Mr. Perminov said that the Elektro Exhibition held by Expocentre played an important part in this process.

President of Interkabel – the International Association of Cables and Cable Equipment Manufacturers Mr. Peshkov pointed out that the Elektro Exhibition has successfully overcome the difficult decade of 1990s as well as the recent financial and economic crisis. “Tasks that both cable and electrical industries are facing now are obvious: it is manly modernization and creation of new production facilities”, said Mr. Peshkov. One more important issue is protection of the Russian market against counterfeit and low-quality products.

Simultaneously with the 20th edition of the Elektro Exhibition there will be held the 9th edition of ElectroTechnoExpo. This event puts on display various products of the electrical industry and power-saving solutions required to improve energy efficiency of the Russian production industries.

Conferences, seminars and over accompanying events will include discussions of prospects of the Russian electrical and energy industries. The most important event is the 8th International Conference on Renewable and Small-Power Energy.

The joint exposition of Elektro’2011 and ElectroTechnoExpo’2011 is located in Pavilions No.2 and 8.

The opene hours are from 10.00 to 18.00; on June 9 from 10.00 to 16.00.
