PRESS RELEASE 20th International Exhibition ELEKTRO'2011 and 9th Specialized Exhibition ElectroTechnoExpo'2011

04 / 07 / 2011

Between 6 and 8 June 2011 pavilions No. 2 and 8 as well as the outdoor space of the Expocentre Fairgrounds welcomed the 20th Edition of ELEKTRO'2011 International Exhibition for Electrical Equipment for Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics and the 9th Edition of the ElectroTechnoExpo-2011 Specialized Exhibition for Energy-Saving and Innovation Technologies. Joint implementation of these two projects enabled to consolidate at one site the interests of two basic industries of the Russian economy – electrical engineering and power engineering.

Worldwide recognition of ELEKTRO as one of the leading European exhibitions in the field of electrical engineering is evidenced by approval logos of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) and the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs (RUEF). The event was carried out with the support from the Russian Ministry of Energy, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, and under the patronage of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and the Moscow City Government.

The major industrial event of the country demonstrated the front-line resource-conscious technologies and materials, most recent electrical equipment and devices, which are essential for the fundamental modernization and technological development of the Russian economy.

At the official opening ceremony Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy Mr Lipatov said that the energy industry needed drastic transformation such as replacement and reconstruction of the equipment, construction of new power lines, which would require significant financial investments from both government and business. Mr. Lipatov expressed concerns about the large amount of energy-intensive equipment used in Russia, which results in inevitable losses in the power grid.

Executive Director of the Association of Manufacturers of Electronic Equipment and Instruments Mr Maslov believes that Russian electrical engineering enterprises continue to develop. He encouraged all interested parties to actively cooperate with Russian companies involved in the electrical industry. Director of the International Energy Academy Mr Perminov drew attention of the audience to the fact that over the last twenty years the industry has undergone many 'anagement, technological, financial and legal' changes. Like other speakers he acknowledged that a major part of the equipment used in Russia today has already outlived its usefulness and the industry faces 'an important task of replacing it with modern efficient equipment'. Mr Perminov said that the ELEKTRO Exhibition held by Expocentre plays an important role in this process.

President of the International Association of Cables and Cable Equipment Manufacturers ¨CIntercable - Mr. Peshkov noted that the ELEKTRO Exhibition has successfully overcome the difficult decade of 1990s as well as the recent financial and economic crisis. 'Tasks that both cable and electrical industries are facing now are obvious: they are mainly modernization and construction of new production facilities', said Mr. Peshkov. One more important issue is protection of the Russian market against counterfeit and substandard products.

This year 496 firms from 23 countries on the net exhibition space of 9 824 sq m demonstrated modern electrical equipment, front-line resource-conscious technologies and materials, the latest power generating units, innovation projects and developments. Germany and Italy significantly enlarged the exhibition space of their National pavilion. In 2011 the Electro exhibition hosted for the first time the Turkish National pavilion. Spain, China, Slovakia and the Czech Republic also organized their National expositions, with support from dedicated ministries, industry unions and associations.

The support to the national pavilions was provided by the Ministry of Economy and Construction of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), the Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Electrical Equipment (AFME - Asociacion de Fabricantes de Material Electrico), and the German Electrical and Electronics Union (ZVEI - Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie e.V.).

The national exposition of Italy was traditionally organized by Expocentre and its subsidiary Expocentre-Italy.

Alongside the key players of the global electrical engineering market, such as ABB, AEG Power Solutions, C & S Electric, Efapel, Finder, Klemsan, Lovato Electric, PUK-WERKE, Rittal, RPS Riello, Siemens, Schneider Electric, V.I. Kozlov Electrotechnical Plant (Minsk), OBO BETTERMANN, etc. 271 Russian exhibitors demonstrated their capacity. Among the local exponents were the leading companies of the industry: VELAN, IEK, Elektromontazh, Kamskiy Kabel, ENERGOMERA Group, Korenevsky Plant of Low-Voltage Equipment, National Electrotechnical Company of Morozov, MOSKABELMET, Sverdlovsk Works of Current Tranformers, UMMC-Non-Ferrous Metals Enterprises, Electroshield Group Samara-TM, Kolchugino Electrocable Works, Elinar, etc.

It is encouraging that the total exhibition area of the Russian companies increased by 57% compared to 2009.

ElectroTechnoExpo'2011 put on display various goods of the electrical engineering sector as well as energy-saving technologies, ensuring increased energy efficiency of the Russian economy.

Russian, Chinese and Belarusian companies demonstrated modern lighting facilities, devices and means of control and register of the electrical power parameters, self-contained electrical power sources.

ELEKTRO'2011 and ElectroTechnoExpo'2011 were visited by some 10 000 specialists. The geographic breakdown of visitor is in Appendix 1. The interest of exhibitors and visitors in thematic sections of the exhibition is shown in Appendix 2.

The ELEKTRO'2011 and ElectroTechnoExpo'2011 exhibitions were accompanied by a program of business-related events, which highlighted the challenges facing Russian electrical engineering and power industries.

The possibility of using energy-saving technologies and renewable energy sources were traditionally covered at the 8th Renewable and Small-Power Energy International Conference, organized by the Russian Union of the Scientific and Engineering Public Organizations, the N.E. Zhukovsky Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI), and VINDEK Scientific Research Centre.

The current legislation on renewable energy sources and relevant issues of the development and implementation of various sun-powered and wind-powered systems as well as small hydro energy and low-grade energy of the Earth as well as other energy sources were discussed at the conference. The latest achievements in the design and manufacturing of the renewable power generation systems were also presented.

Events of this year certainly encourage the electrical engineering industry to innovate, search for new markets and maximise the international cooperation.

We will be glad to welcome the participants in the 21st International exhibition ELEKTRO'2012 and in the 10th International exhibition ElectroTehnoExpo'2012 at Expocentre Fairgrounds between 13 and 16 June 2012.
